Debt Advice Administration Support Volunteer Needed

Due to a substantial increase in demand for debt advice at our office based in Walton on Thames, we are seeking additional volunteer administrative support to help the specialist debt advice team. Please see details about this new voluntary opportunity below.

 

Role: Debt Advice Administration Support Volunteer 

Hours: 1 to 2 days a week (flexible hours to suit you) 

Location: Walton on Thames 

Reporting to: Debt Advice Specialist

Citizens Advice Elmbridge West provides free, independent, impartial, and confidential advice to anybody in need without judgement. We support the communities of Walton on Thames, Weybridge, and Hersham in Surrey. Volunteers are the cornerstone of our operation, enabling thousands of people every year to seek help and support for a wide range of issues they are facing in life. 

Role Overview 

Debt advice is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Our Debt advisers guide and empower clients as well as negotiate with creditors on their behalf on all matters including council tax arrears, rent or mortgage arrears, electricity/gas debt, credit cards, insolvency, bailiffs and also look at available options for clients to maximise their income. 

As our volunteer Debt Advice Admin, you’ll be supporting a busy team of Debt Caseworkers. You will perform essential administrative tasks, manage client and third-party enquiries and assist in gathering information from clients and creditors. Full training will be given.  

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Collate information received from clients via the Debt packs. 
  • Draw up client budget plans and verify figures against bank statements. 
  • List anomalies found in bank statements for Debt specialist to discuss with the client. 
  • Send letters to creditors

  • Community Minded : An interest and commitment to Citizens Advice Elmbridge West’s mission and values and the local communities of Walton on Thames, Weybridge and Hersham we serve. 
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality agreements to protect client confidentiality. 
  • Organisational Skills: Strong organisational and planning abilities. 
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • IT Proficiency: Comfortable using email and Microsoft 365. (We will train you in our database case management system.)
